NORDIC BAROQUE SCENE – MISSION, VISION, UNIQUENESS AND MOTTO
Mission
Our mission is to touch modern audiences’ feelings by performing Early Music from our
Nordic and European cultural heritage by means of novel and exciting projects where
different cultural expressions are mixed to form surprising and even boundary-pushing
experiences. Through a modern, innovative and playful approach to presentation and
communication we wish to prove the timelessness of the art we love.
Vision
NBS unites the four prominent Nordic Baroque orchestras – Barokkanerne (Norway),
Concerto Copenhagen (Denmark), Finnish Baroque Orchestra (Finland) and
Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble (Sweden) – in an effort to prove the relevance and
importance of the art expression we represent to Nordic audiences and decision makers,
to strengthen the visibility of our four orchestras in a Nordic and in a European context,
to promote growth through collaboration and to encourage young talents in the field of
Early Music.
Uniqueness
Each orchestra in NBS has its own unique profile rooted both in singular Nordic traits as
well as in decades of dedication to international exchange of knowledge and
craftsmanship, making them eminent ambassadors for the living arts in the Nordic
countries and the rest of Europe. The NBS constitutes a new collaborative platform
where the four orchestras come together to undertake substantial collaboration projects
and share best practices, creating a whole greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Motto
The Nordic Baroque Scene lives to keep exceptional old repertoire forever young.

Four orchestras that have done pioneering work and have taken on an important role in the development of a baroque music scene in their country are coming together to become even stronger. They are united by their love of music, their desire to explore new paths and their curiosity about other perspectives and interpretations. This is how they began to work together, first in individual projects and finally in the Nordic Baroque Scene.
Today, the cooperation within the network is an important part of the ensembles’ everyday concert life. They visit each other’s concert series and festivals, play works together and carry out bigger joint projects like Viking Barokk and the singing competition Aria borealis.
They not only cooperate in the artistic sense but also join forces in administrative tasks and in jointly applying for funding in order to use all resources sustainably and effectively.
